Important Announcement at HPI

Message From the Board President

HPI’s Board of Directors is saddened at the news that Sue Beck-Ferkiss is resigning to take a position with the city of Fort Collins. In her five years as Executive Director, Sue has led HPI to wonderful growth during challenging economic times. She has increased public awareness, championed the Education Extra program, and helped broaden our vision, all while keeping us true to the mission “catching families before they fall.” We are tremendously grateful to Sue, and the board looks forward to a celebration of her work with us. We’ll have more information on that at a future date.

As we move into the future, HPI has already begun the search for a new Executive Director. The job posting is available on our website and can be accessed by clicking here. It is also posted with the Larimer County Workforce Center.

As friends of HPI, you know the passion and commitment that it takes to serve as the Executive. If you know of a talented, passionate person who could provide the leadership necessary to move HPI into the next chapter of its life, please make him or her aware of the job posting. Sue or I would also be happy to answer any questions a potential applicant may have. I may be reached at dana@sothftc.org.

The organization is strong and viable, and we look forward to your continued partnership as we continue working to keep families safe, strong and sheltered.

Cordially,

Dana Peterson
Board President

Catching Families Before They Fall…

While most of us struggle with maintaining a basic budget, imagine the frustration of knowing that the one thing many of us can always count on – a roof over our heads – is in jeopardy. The Homelessness Prevention Initiative is a local, grassroots emergency support resource for working families living within the Poudre School District who face the possibility of homelessness.

  • We work to prevent homelessness before it starts.
  • We provide one-time grants (once per twelve months) for rental assistance, and all checks are written directly to the client’s landlord.
  • We help clients navigate the assistance process by providing referrals to appropriate services, agencies and community resources.
  • We provide mediation services to residents and property owners, as needed.
2012 Annual Report

Our work makes a difference…

  • Since opening more than a decade ago, we have helped over 20,000 individuals, including 12,000 children, stay in their homes.
  • 96 percent of the families we help are able to overcome a financial crisis with an average grant of under $300.
  • HPI assisted nearly 850 households in 2012. That’s over 1,700 children.
  • Every $1 donated to HPI saves at least $20 in costs associated with being homeless.
